Fatality at Kolomela mine

Kumba Iron Ore Limited (Kumba) regrets to announce that a fatality has occurred on the Witsand access road to its Kolomela Mine (previously known as the Sishen South project) near Postmasburg in the Northern Cape at about 12:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2010.

An employee was fatally injured when the tyre of a tipper truck caught alight and exploded while he and two others were trying to extinguish the fire. The two other employees were not injured.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances and cause of the accident.

The name of the deceased will only be released once his next-of-kin have been informed. Kumba expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
